Approaches to Paul: A Student’s Guide to to Recent Scholarship

What distinguishes the "new perspective on Paul" — and what lies beyond it? What are scholars saying about Paul and the Roman Empire or about the intersection between feminist and postcolonial interpretation of Paul? Magnus Zetterholm provides a clear and reliable guide to these and other lively issues in the contemporary study of Paul, surveying the history of the principal perspectives on Paul's

Free Clusters Studied by Synchrotron-Based X-ray Spectroscopy: From Rare Gases to Metals

The main topic of this Thesis is the x-ray spectroscopic studies of free nano-clusters with size more than 10^3 atoms. The photoelectron spectroscopy experiments on rare gas and metal clusters were performed at beamline I411 at MAX-lab National Swedish synchrotron radiation facility. Free rare-gas clusters are simplest objects in cluster research. However their electronic structure springs a lot

Finland’s regional GDPs 1880-2010: estimates, sources and interpretations

This paper provides the first consistent long-run estimates of Finnish regional GDPs, from 1880 to 2010. Estimates are provided for 12 historical counties as well as for the 5 current-border NUTS 2-regions. The main results from the analyses of the long-run evolution of regional GDPs are the following. Firstly, it is clear that Finland’s geographical position, in the intersection between Eastern a

Common variants in genes regulating free fatty acid metabolism and risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease

Detta är aAbstract The present study evaluated genetic and metabolic factors influencing the risk for type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease (CVD) with special reference to increased concentrations of free fatty acids (FFA) in 1174 Swedish diabetic and nondiabetic subjects. Common polymorphisms in the fatty acid binding protein 2 (FABP2), the B2-adrenergic receptor (B2-AR), the B3 -adrenergic receptor

Barley- and Legume Products Beneficially Affect Metabolic Responses and Appetite Regulation

Vidare visade resultaten att en kvällsmåltid med brunThe role of dietary fibre (DF) in disease prevention has been extensively investigated and prospective studies observed that increased DF intake decreased the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD), reduced the risk of weight gain as well as the risk of type 2 diabetes (T2D). Also a diet characterized by low glycaemic index (GI) has been shown to reduce the risk of T2D and CVD. More recently, eviden

Law and participation

The issue of participation is of interest to scholars in law because of its relation to new forms of governance and regulation (Black 2000, 2001; de Burca and Scott 2006). Empirical studies of participation in biotechnology licensing show however that such procedures “itself may cause serious trouble when it is embedded in a formal procedure with a relatively strong legal framework.” (Bora & H

Interacting Compact Binaries: Modeling Mass Transfer in Eccentric Systems

We discuss mass transfer in eccentric binaries containing a white dwarf and a neutron star (WD-NS binaries). We show that such binaries are produced from field binaries following a series of mass transfer episodes that allow the white dwarf to form before the neutron star. We predict the orbital properties of binaries similar to the observed WD-NS binary J1141+6545, and show that they will undergo

Airway epithelial shedding: Morphological and functional aspects in vivo.

However, the distribution of epithelial shedding in inflammatory airway diseases and, particularly, the ensuing repair processes are largely unknown. In the present studies we have developed novel in vivo techniques to explore epithelial repair mechanisms and associated tissue responses occuring in gu
