ColoRea: Colour Rearrangement for Dipole Showers

In this talk I presented an algorithm to correct for wrong assignment of colour dipoles in the cascade of dipole showers. It is explained how simple matrix elements can be used to reorder the colour connections for the evolution of the following cascade. I discuss the possibility to modify the splitting kernels to include an improved behaviour. Further a numerical study is presented that indicates

Under-five mortality and maternal HIV status in Tanzania: analysis of trends between 2003 and 2012 using AIDS Indicator Survey data

BackgroundMortality among children under five remains a significant health challenge across sub-Saharan Africa. HIV/AIDS is one of the leading contributors to the relatively slow decline in under-five mortality in this region. In Tanzania, HIV prevalence among under-five children is high and 90% of all infections are due to mother-to-child transmission.ObjectivesThe study aimed to examine the asso

Ethanol and erythrocyte membrane interaction: a hemorheologic perspective.

Previous studies have documented structural and functional changes induced by ethanol-erythrocyte membrane interaction. In order to perform an in vitro study on the effect of different ethanol concentrations on erythrocyte hemorheologic properties, blood samples were collected from 21 male donors at the Hospital of Santa Maria. Whole blood aliquots were incubated with ethanol solutions of rising c

Development and Implementation of Survivorship Tools to Enable Medical Follow-Up After Childhood Cancer Treatment in Southern Sweden

PURPOSE: Survival rates after childhood cancer have increased from 20% to 80% since the 1970s. The increased number of survivors emphasizes the importance of late effects and their monitoring. Late effects may have a strong impact on quality of life in survivors. The purpose of this study was to make key data in a quality registry available for direct clinical use, enabling health care professiona

'I would never have done it if it hadn't been digital' : a qualitative study on patients' experiences of a digital management programme for hip and knee osteoarthritis in Sweden

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the experiences of a digital management programme for hip and knee osteoarthritis (OA), including education and exercises as well as an option to chat with an assigned physical therapist for feedback, questions and support.SETTING: This study was conducted at a regional hospital in the southern part of Sweden.METHODS: Nineteen patients (10 women), median age of 66 (q1-q3

Large scale multifactorial likelihood quantitative analysis of BRCA1 and BRCA2 variants : An ENIGMA resource to support clinical variant classification

The multifactorial likelihood analysis method has demonstrated utility for quantitative assessment of variant pathogenicity for multiple cancer syndrome genes. Independent data types currently incorporated in the model for assessing BRCA1 and BRCA2 variants include clinically calibrated prior probability of pathogenicity based on variant location and bioinformatic prediction of variant effect, co-

Multi-leg Hadronic Final State: calculation and simulation

In this talk we discuss the recent progess in the computation and simulation of multi-leg hadronic final states. We focus on three recent developments: (i) Minlo as a path NNLOPS, (ii) NLO EW corrections and their matching to parton showers, and (iii) incorporating NLO splitting functions in parton showers.

The Gaia-ESO Survey : Catalogue of Hα emission stars

We discuss the properties of Hα emission stars across the sample of 22035 spectra from the Gaia-ESO Survey internal data release, observed with the GIRAFFE instrument and largely belonging to stars in young open clusters. Automated fits using two independent Gaussian profiles and a third component that accounts for the nebular emission allow us to discern distinct morphological types of Hα line pr

Conceptual Confusions and Causal Dynamics

It is argued that rules and norms are conceptually distinct. What is norm is not a rule, and vice versa. Versions of conflating the two are discussed and an argument for distinction given. Objections to the argument are responded to. It is accepted that rules and norms are intimately related, but they are so causally, not conceptually. What norms we live by makes a difference to what rules we acceThis paper argues that rules and norms are conceptually distinct: what is norm is not thereby rule, and vice versa. Versions of conflating the two are discussed and an argument for distinction given. Two objections to the argument are responded to. It is accepted that rules and norms are often intimately related. They are so causally, not conceptually: what norms we live by can make a difference t

Annual Research Review : Quality of life and childhood mental and behavioural disorders - a critical review of the research

BACKGROUND: An individual's subjective perception of well-being is increasingly recognized as an essential complement to clinical symptomatology and functional impairment in children's mental health. Measurement of quality of life (QoL) has the potential to give due weight to the child's perspective.SCOPE AND METHODOLOGY: Our aim was to critically review the current evidence on how childhood menta

Hypersensitive pupillary light reflex in infants at risk for autism

BACKGROUND: Post mortem brain tissue data and animal modeling work indicate cholinergic disruptions in autism. Moreover, the cholinergic system plays a key role in the early neurodevelopmental processes believed to be derailed early in life in individuals with the disorder. Yet, there is no data from human infants supporting a developmentally important role of this neurotransmitter system. Because
