Stability for the periodic Camassa-Holm equation

We use integrability to prove the stability of smooth periodic solutions of the Camassa-Holm equation. In particular, the smooth periodic traveling wave solutions are shown to be orbitally stable.

Risk, information and incentives in telecom supply chains

Supply chain management involves the selection, coordination and motivation of independently operated suppliers. The central planner's perspective in operations management translates poorly to vertically separated chains, where suppliers recurrently seem to object to benevolent information sharing and centralized decision rights. Seen from the supplier's perspective, such resistance may very well

EFFECTOR T CELL HOMING TO THE SMALL INTESTINAL MUCOSA

Det är denna del av immunförsvaret som inte fungerar då auThe intestinal mucosa, including the intestinal epithelium and underlying lamina propria (LP), contains a large number of effector/memory T cells that are thought to play a central role in the generation and maintenance of mucosal immune responses and in maintaining mucosal integrity. The work in this thesis investigates the mechanisms regulating effector T cell recruitment to the small intestinal

Differences in hemoglobin adduct levels of acrylamide in the general population with respect to dietary intake, smoking habits and gender.

The variation in dietary exposure to acrylamide (AA) has been studied through measurement of hemoglobin adduct levels from AA, as a measurement of internal dose, in a sample from the blood bank of the Malmo Diet and Cancer Cohort (n = 28,098). The blood donors are well characterised with regard to their food habits, and 142 individuals were selected to obtain highest possible variation in the addu

Assignment of allotypes G1m(a+) and G1m(a-) at the genomic level by polymerase chain reaction analysis

A method of assignment of the human immunoglobulin allotypes G1m(a+) and G1m(a-) without the use of serological reagents is described. It is based upon oligonucleotide-directed enzymatic amplification of genomic segments encoding CH3 of gamma chains, followed by dot-blot hybridization of radioactively labelled oligonucleotides to the amplified DNA. The method was used to classify the immunoglobuli

Differential deposition of amyloid beta peptides in cerebral amyloid angiopathy associated with Alzheimer's disease and vascular dementia.

Cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA) caused by deposition of amyloid beta (A beta) peptides in the cerebrovasculature, involves degeneration of normal vascular components and increases the risk of infarction and cerebral hemorrhage. Accumulating evidence suggests that sporadic CAA is also a significant contributor to cognitive decline and dementia in the elderly. However, the mechanisms by which CAA

Genomic structure of mouse SPI-C and genomic structure and expression pattern of human SPI-C.

Erythroblast transformation-specific domain (ETS) transcription factors regulate some of the critical molecular mechanisms controlling the differentiation of multipotent haematopoietic progenitor cells into effector B-lymphocytes. The SPI-group ETS-protein transcription factors PU.1 and SPI-B play essential and, although coexpressed and binding to similar DNA sequences, unique roles in B-cell diff

Altered vascular function in healthy normotensive pregnant women with bilateral uterine artery notches.

OBJECTIVES: To assess endothelial function and vascular mechanical properties in normotensive pregnant women with high resistance in the uteroplacental circulation. DESIGN: Cross-sectional prospective study. SETTING: Doppler ultrasound laboratory at university department of obstetrics and gynaecology referral centre for high risk pregnancies. PARTICIPANTS: Forty-two caucasian normotensive pregnant

Fusion of skim milk cheese curd grains: Development of a method to measure the fracture stress of the bonds between fused curd grains

An experimental technique with which to measure the fracture stress of fused curd grains, submerged in ultrafiltered milk permeate, has been developed and applied to curd grains of rennet-induced skim milk at pH 6.40 during the first 25 min of fusion. Effects of applied compressive stress within the range of 25-50 Pa, syneresis time, fusion time and tension loading rate were investigated. Fracture

Capacity of human beta-defensin expression in gene-transduced and cytokine-induced cells

The purpose of this study was to determine the capacity of cells transduced with human beta-defensins (HBDs) to express antimicrobial peptides, since sufficient expression level is required for effective antimicrobial activity. Retroviral vector pBabeNeo and lentiviral vector SIN18cPPTRhMLV (SIN18) carrying HBDs were utilized to transduce non-HBD-expressing cells such as fibroblasts or HBD-produci

Recruitment from resting stages among bloom-forming cyanobacteria

Dock vet vi inte exakt vad det är som styr när och hur desCyanobacteria are known to form heavy blooms in eutrophicated freshwaters and also form resting stages, associated with the sediments, during harsh growth conditions. These resting stages can serve as inoculum for pelagic populations and function as a potential source for bloom formations. However, the factors involved in initiating recruitment from resting stage to the pelagic phase are not fully

Immunoregulatory differences between adult onset type 1 diabetes and latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA)

Den betydligt vanligare typ 2 diabetes antas inte vara en autoimmun sjukdom men diabetes specifika autoantikroppar (IAutoimmune diabetes is characterized by cell mediated autoimmunity against insulin producing beta cells in pancreatic islets. Type 1 diabetes is the major cause of diabetes in children and adolescents and is believed to be mediated by a Thl driven destruction of beta cells. The much more prevalent type 2 diabetes is not considered as an autoimmune disease but diabetes specific autoantibodies (ICA
