CD36 is increased in human islets from obese type 2 diabetes donors, and affects beta cell function by the modulation of exocytotic proteins and insulin content
CD46 costimulation leads to enhanced T cell activation and microrna expression
The microbial regulation of global biogeochemical cycles
Temperature and age effects on latitudinal growth dynamics of the commercially valuable gadoid Northeast Arctic saithe (Pollachius virens)
It is well known that marine fish dynamics relate with climate variability, and predicting future population developments have become increasingly urgent with on-going climate change. One approach in widespread populations is to study how individuals from different parts of the distribution area respond to climate, thereby testing for potential resilience in terms of local adaptions against enviro
Charophytes collapse beyond a critical warming and brownification threshold in shallow lake systems
Charophytes play a critical role for the functioning of shallow lake ecosystems. Although growth of charophytes can be limited by many factors, such as temperature, nutrients and light availability, our understanding about concomitant effects of climate warming and other large-scale environmental perturbations, e.g. increases in humic matter content (‘brownification’) is still limited. Here we con
Higher order mobile coverage control with applications to clustering of discrete sets
Most current results on coverage control using mobile sensors require that one partitioned cell is associated with precisely one sensor. In this paper, we consider a class of coverage control problems involving higher order Voronoi partitions, motivated by applications where more than one sensor is required to monitor and cover one cell. Such applications are frequent in scenarios requiring the se
ϒ suppression at forward rapidity in Pb–Pb collisions at sNN=5.02TeV
Inclusive ϒ(1S) and ϒ(2S) production have been measured in Pb–Pb collisions at the centre-of-mass energy per nucleon–nucleon pair sNN=5.02 TeV, using the ALICE detector at the CERN LHC. The ϒ mesons are reconstructed in the centre-of-mass rapidity interval 2.5
Daylight regulation compliance of existing multi-family apartment blocks in Sweden
This research investigates the daylight regulation compliance of existing multi-family housing developments located primarily in Stockholm (Lat.: 59,33 °N), Sweden. A representative sample of 54 buildings consisting of 10.888 individual rooms was modelled according to archived documentation drawings and evaluated by use of Radiance simulations, to test their compliance with the current Swedish day
Femtosecond-laser electronic-excitation tagging velocimetry using a 267 nm laser
Femtosecond (fs)-laser electronic-excitation tagging velocimetry (FLEET) in a nitrogen flow field using a 267 nm laser was performed under the condition of fs-laser filamentation. The filamentous properties and their effects on velocity measurements were investigated and were compared with those of an 800 nm fs-laser. The results show that the required energy of the 267 nm laser pulse is as low as
Do pupil-based binocular video eye trackers reliably measure vergence?
A binocular eye tracker needs to be accurate to enable the determination of vergence, distance to the binocular fixation point and fixation disparity. These measures are useful in e.g. the research fields of visual perception, binocular control in reading and attention in 3D. Are binocular pupil-based video eye trackers accurate enough to produce meaningful binocular measures? Recent research reve
Associations of blood mercury and fatty acid concentrations with blood mitochondrial DNA copy number in the Seychelles Child Development Nutrition Study
Background: Fish contains methylmercury (MeHg) which can cause oxidative stress and neurodevelopmental toxicity at sufficiently high doses. Fish also contains polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) which have both antioxidant (n-3) and oxidant (n-6) properties. Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) is sensitive to oxidative stress but has not been previously studied in relation to MeHg exposure or PUFA status. Ob
Oligomerization status and post-translational modification of adiponectin : A possible association between adiponectin and risk of coronary artery disease
Collective Effects : the viewpoint of HEP MC codes
Collective effects are observed in high-multiplicity pp events, similar to the signals traditionally attributed to the formation of a Quark Gluon Plasma in heavy ion collisions. In core–corona models it is assumed that a partial plasma formation is indeed possible also in pp, but here the focus is on several recent models that attempt to explain pp data without invoking plasma formation. These att
Immunohistochemical profiles in primary lung cancers and epithelial pulmonary metastases
Correct diagnosis of pulmonary tumors is essential for treatment decision and often relies on immunohistochemical markers. We stained tissue microarrays from resected primary lung cancer (n = 665) and pulmonary metastases (n = 425) for CK7, CK20, CDX2, CK5, p40, p63, TTF-1, napsin A, GATA3, and PAX8 to systematically assess the diagnostic value of these markers. Primary lung adenocarcinomas expres
Familial Associations of Colon and Rectal Cancers With Other Cancers
BACKGROUND: Many studies have indicated that colon and rectal cancers differ in etiology and histology. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to investigate whether the associations of colon and rectal cancers with any other (discordant) cancer were site specific. DESIGN: A novel approach was implemented in which cancer risks were analyzed in families with increasing numbers of family members diagn

Microscopic collectivity : The ridge and strangeness enhancement from string–string interactions
We present the microscopic model for collective effects, built on string–string interactions (string shoving and rope hadronization), recently implemented in the PYTHIA8 and DIPSY event generators. Rope hadronization is shown to give a good description of strangeness enhancement across pp, pA and AA collision systems, while string shoving qualitatively describes the ridge observed in pp collisions
Economic development and democracy : An electoral connection
Scholars continue to debate whether economic development affects regime type. This article argues that a clear relationship exists between development and the electoral component of democracy, but not – or at least less so – between development and other components of broader understandings of democracy. This is so because development enhances the power resources of citizens and elections provide
