Composition and Seasonality of Membrane Transporters in Marine Picoplankton

In this study, we examined transporter genes in metagenomic and metatranscriptomic data from a time-series survey in the temperate marine environment of the Baltic Sea. We analyzed the abundance and taxonomic distribution of transporters in the 3μm–0.2μm size fraction comprising prokaryotes and some picoeukaryotes. The presence of specific transporter traits was shown to be guiding the succession

EH Domain-Containing 2 Deficiency Restricts Adipose Tissue Expansion and Impairs Lipolysis in Primary Inguinal Adipocytes

Lipid uptake can be facilitated via caveolae, specific plasma membrane invaginations abundantly expressed in adipocytes. The dynamin-related protein EH domain-containing 2 (EHD2) stabilizes caveolae at the cell surface. Here, we have examined the importance of EHD2 for lipid handling using primary adipocytes isolated from EHD2 knockout (Ehd2−/−) C57BL6/N mice. Following high-fat diet (HFD) feeding

Bone-Specific Metastasis Pattern of Advanced-Stage Lung Adenocarcinoma According to the Localization of the Primary Tumor

Background: Patients with advanced-stage lung adenocarcinoma (LADC) often develop distant metastases in the skeletal system. Yet, the bone-specific metastasis pattern is still controversial. We, therefore, aimed to examine how the primary tumor location affects bone specificity and survival in LADC patients diagnosed with skeletal metastases. Methods: In total, 209 bone-metastatic Caucasian LADC p

Clinical impact of intraprocedural stent thrombosis during percutaneous coronary intervention in patients treated with potent p2y12 inhibitors -A validate-swedeheart substudy

BACKGROUND: The clinical importance of intraprocedural stent thrombosis (IPST) during percutaneous coronary intervention in the contemporary era of potent oral P2Y12 inhibitors is not established. The aim of this study was to assess IPST and its association with clinical outcome in patients with myocardial infarction undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention with contemporary antithromboticmed

Modeling and Mechanistic Investigation of α-synuclein aggregation

Our understanding of the α-synuclein aggregation process and the consequences thereof is currently limited, which in turn prevents the development of targeted therapeutic interventions. The work presented here, as a part of this thesis, is focused on expanding our understanding of the molecular events involved in α-synuclein aggregation. Towards this goal we have studied the impact of pathological

Read My Lips : Post-truth Political Discourses, Authenticity and Subtle Violence

"Abstract in Italian": La post-verità dei discorsi politici, esemplificata nella retorica di Trump, non si basa principalmente sui fatti. Ciò che sembra essere importante, quando l’elettorato valuta questi discorsi, è se i politici che parlano sono veritieri o autentici, non se ogni parola pronunciata è ‘vera’. Pertanto, le valutazioni critiche dei discorsi politici populisti dovrebbero iniziare pPost-truth political discourses, exemplified by Trump’s rhetoric, are not primarily based on facts. What appears to be important when the electorate evaluates these discourses is whether the politicians who are speaking are genuine or authentic, not whether every word uttered is ‘true’. Therefore, critical evaluations of populist political discourses should begin by asking questions about what kin

The Argumentation in Galatians

Many exegetes set out to analyse not only rhetorical features in Galatians but also other features relating to Paul’s argumentation. Still, the use of insights from modern argumentation theory has been modest and no full-fledged argumentation analyses of Paul’s argumentation have yet been attempted. However, modern methods for argumentation analysis provide useful tools for such an undertaking. Simply the best? The impact of quality on choice of primary healthcare provider in Sweden

Objective: One of the more important objectives with the patient choice reform, introducing non-price competition in Swedish primary healthcare, was to improve performance and quality of care. However, in order for choice to lead to quality improvements, citizens need to consider quality aspects in their choices of provider. We hypothesize that quality of care influences choice of provider and the

What Cut-Point in Gait Speed Best Discriminates Community-Dwelling Older Adults With Mobility Complaints From Those Without? A Pooled Analysis From the Sarcopenia Definitions and Outcomes Consortium

BACKGROUND: Cut-points to define slow walking speed have largely been derived from expert opinion. METHODS: Study participants (13 589 men and 5043 women aged ≥65years) had walking speed (m/s) measured over 4-6 m (mean ± SD: 1.20 ± 0.27 m/s in men and 0.94 ± 0.24 m/s in women.) Mobility limitation was defined as any self-reported difficulty with walking approximately 1/4 mile (prevalence: 12.6% me

Innovation without Regional Development? The Complex Interplay of Innovation, Institutions, and Development

This article argues that the development of regional innovation concepts, drawing primarily on the experiences of advanced regions, has led to inadequate narratives about the experience of less-developed regions (LDRs). Drawing on the extensive experience of the authors doing research in LDRs, the article develops three main arguments: first it examines the limitations of endogenous approaches to

The nanoscale distribution of copper and its influence on charge collection in CdTe solar cells

For decades, Cu has been the primary dopant in CdTe photovoltaic absorbers. Typically, Cu acceptor concentrations in these devices are on the order of 1 × 1014 cm−3, which has made it notoriously difficult to directly correlate nanoscale Cu distributions to the local charge transport properties of these devices. To measure and correlate these properties, measurement techniques require high sensiti
