Inferring the Redshift of More than 150 GRBs with a Machine-learning Ensemble Model

Gamma-ray bursts (GRBs), due to their high luminosities, are detected up to a redshift of 10, and thus have the potential to be vital cosmological probes of early processes in the Universe. Fulfilling this potential requires a large sample of GRBs with known redshifts, but due to observational limitations, only 11% have known redshifts (z). There have been numerous attempts to estimate redshifts v

Radiation effect on stagnation point flow of Casson nanofluid past a stretching plate/cylinder

The exclusive behaviour of nanofluid has been actively emphasized due to the determination of improved thermal efficiency. Hence, the aim of this study is to highlight the laminar boundary layer axisymmetric stagnation point flow of Casson nanofluid past a stretching plate/cylinder under the influence of thermal radiation and suction/injection. Nanofluid comprises water and Fe3 O4 as nanoparticles

I fjällområdet kunde totalt 35 ytor inventeras.

Macromolecular characterization of high β-glucan oat lines

Oat (Avena sativa) is a cereal grain rich in fibers, proteins, vitamins and minerals. Oats have been linked to several health benefits, such as lowering blood cholesterol levels, counteracting cardiovascular disease and regulating blood sugar levels. This study aimed to characterize two new oat lines with high β-glucan content emanating from ethyl methyl sulphonate mutagenesis on the Lantmännen el

Modeling the Transport and Interaction of Paperboard ”Confetti” in Pipes

During the production of Tetra Pak’s packaging material, holes are cut for straws and caps, generating paperboard scraps known as confetti. These scraps must be removed from the machinery to prevent build-up and potential blockages. To design efficient extraction systems, experiments and simulations are employed to understand the phenomena of confetti transport. Confetti are introduced into a simp

I fjällområdet inventerades totalt 48 ytor.

One hundred years of excellence : the top one hundred authors of the Journal of Comparative Physiology A

The Journal of Comparative Physiology A is the premier peer-reviewed scientific journal in comparative physiology, in particular sensory physiology, neurophysiology, and neuroethology. Founded in 1924 by Karl von Frisch and Alfred Kühn, it celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2024. During these 100 years, many of the landmark achievements in these disciplines were published in this journal. To comm

Motion event categorisation in a nativised variety of South African English

The present study seeks to expand the current focus on acquisition situations in linguistic relativity research by exploring the effects of nativisation (the process by which a L2 is acquired as a L1) on language-specific cognitive behaviour. Categorisation preferences of goal-oriented motion events were investigated in South African speakers who learnt English as a L1 from caregivers who spoke En

Cognitive Grammar

This entry offers a short description of the fundamental assumptions of grammar within the broad framework of Cognitive Linguistics. It presents the principles of usage-based Cognitive Grammar (CG), classic works in the framework as well as more recent treatments of grammatical structure and content in the form of examples of grammatical notions. Central to the CG approach is the meaningful functi

Bridging the Headset : Engagement, Collaboration and Learning In and Around Virtual Reality

To study engagement and learning we developed an asymmetric collaborative version of an existing VR-experience about environmental sustainability, enabling student teams of three, with only one wearing a headset at any time, to collaborate in three different virtual reality subgames. We compared this collaborative version to a non-collaborative version in a between-subjects experimental study (n =

The Flesh of History : Re-Enlivening the History of Textile Industries Through the Work of Kristina Müntzing

Swedish artist Kristina Müntzing physically engages with archives of textile industries through manipulating, enlarging, fragmenting and re-constructing (re-weaving) photographs that she finds, as well as creating performances that explore the carnal aspects of this history. In this way, she makes connections between such embodied understandings and the political struggles of the time, which conti

Nucleoredoxin Redox Interactions Are Sensitized by Aging and Potentiated by Chronic Alcohol Consumption in the Mouse Liver

Aging is characterized by increased reactive species, leading to redox imbalance, oxidative damage, and senescence. The adverse effects of alcohol consumption potentiate aging-associated alterations, promoting several diseases, including liver diseases. Nucleoredoxin (NXN) is a redox-sensitive enzyme that targets reactive oxygen species and regulates key cellular processes through redox protein–pr

Development and prognostic validation of a three-level NHG-like deep learning-based model for histological grading of breast cancer

Background: Histological grade is a well-known prognostic factor that is routinely assessed in breast tumours. However, manual assessment of Nottingham Histological Grade (NHG) has high inter-assessor and inter-laboratory variability, causing uncertainty in grade assignments. To address this challenge, we developed and validated a three-level NHG-like deep learning-based histological grade model (
