From Adaptive Capacity to Adaptation: Rethinking the Interface between Institutions and Citizens

There is an increasing consensus that individual adaptive capacities are critical to successfully adapt to climate change and achieve sustainable development. However, little is known about adaptive practices, particularly in developed countries. Against this background, this paper investigates the strategies used by Swedish citizens to adapt to (changing) climatic variability and extremes. It off

From Intuition to Insight

The article discusses the role of intuition for insight. Creativity provides heuristic solutions to problems that are intractable if approached in standard, algorithmic ways. Intuition is claimed to occur during the incubation phase (Wallas 1926) and to crucially depend on embodied memory and unconscious processing of memories, such as reconstruction and recreation. Two suggestions as to how memor

Design paradigmes and misunderstood technology: The case of older users

The stereotypes about older adults and the incomplete picture that emerges when such persons are described in terms of properties and a characteristic derived from ageing is one motivation for defining the status of older users. The other key motivation is that the elderly are just one user-group among others so that the perspective on how technology is used may or may not tell us something about

Measurement of the Generalized Polarizabilities of the Proton in Virtual Compton Scattering at Q2 = 0.92 and 1.76 GeV2

We report a virtual Compton scattering study of the proton at low c.m. energies. We have determined the structure functions PLL–PTT/and PLT, and the electric and magnetic generalized polarizabilities (GPs) E(Q2) and M(Q2) at momentum transfer Q2=0.92 and 1.76 GeV2. The electric GP shows a strong falloff with Q2, and its global behavior does not follow a simple dipole form. The magnetic GP shows a
