Counterexamples to general convergence of a commonly used recursive identification method

A recursive algorithm for parametric identification of discrete-time systems known as Panuska's method, the approximate maximum likelihood method or the extended matrix method, is analyzed. Making use of recently developed theory for asymptotic analysis of recursive stochastic algorithms, dynamic systems, and autoregressive moving average (ARMA) processes are constructed for which this algorithm d

Islamizing the present, challenging the past

The trajectories of politically activist and socially committed interpretations of Islam in (late)modern societies continue to spur heated debate and academic discussion. A recurrent theme is the compatibility of Islamic ideological/legal foundations vis-à-vis secular state institutions and liberal democracy. Survival following combination chemotherapy in advanced high grade non‐Hodgkin's lymphomas : Relation to proliferative activity of the lymphoma cells

In 18 untreated adult patients (median age 62.5 yr) with advanced non‐Hodgkin's lymphoma of unfavourable histology, thymidine labelling indices (LIs) of the lymphoma cells were assessed. The patients were treated with combination chemotherapy and have been followed for 29–60 (median 52) months or until death. The survival curve had a steep fall during the first 2 yr. Between 2–5 yr after treatment

Diagnostic pathway efficacy for urinary tract cancer : population-based outcome of standardized evaluation for macroscopic haematuria

Objective: This study assessed a national healthcare intervention launched in Sweden in 2015 to reduce the time between macroscopic haematuria, diagnosis and treatment of urinary tract cancer. Methods: The outcome of the first 11 months was evaluated in 1697 individuals referred to a standardized care pathway for urinary tract cancer compared with 174 patients with conventionally diagnosed urothel

Hazardous drinkers in Norwegian hospitals - a cross-sectional study of prevalence and drinking patterns among somatic patients

Background: High alcohol intake has been associated with increased risk of hospital admission, increased complication rates, and prolonged hospital stay. Thus, hospital admission may present a relevant opportunity for alcohol intervention. To understand the potential of alcohol interventions we need knowledge about patients’ drinking patterns. The aim of this study was therefore to determine the d

Wonderment in tourism land : three tales of innovation

The paper uses an unconventional story format to report on three cases of tourism innovation, using the literary genre of nonsense to also contemplate narrative expression in academic research. Case materials principally derive from open in-depth interviews. The analysis highlights the importance of knowledge in innovation, also illuminating an important relationship to entrepreneurial passion. No
