Experiences of activity monitoring and perceptions of digital support among working individuals with hip and knee osteoarthritis – a focus group study
Background: Mobile health (mHealth), wearable activity trackers (WATs) and other digital solutions could support physical activity (PA) in individuals with hip and knee osteoarthritis (OA), but little is described regarding experiences and perceptions of digital support and the use of WAT to self-monitor PA. Thus, the aim of this study was to explore the experiences of using a WAT to monitor PA an
Characterization of the Aquaporin-9 Inhibitor RG100204 In Vitro and in db/db Mice
Aquaporin-9 (AQP9) is a facilitator of glycerol and other small neutral solute transmembrane diffusion. Identification of specific inhibitors for aquaporin family proteins has been difficult, due to high sequence similarity between the 13 human isoforms, and due to the limited channel surface areas that permit inhibitor binding. The few AQP9 inhibitor molecules described to date were not suitable
High diversity of arthropod colour vision : from genes to ecology
Colour vision allows animals to use the information contained in the spectrum of light to control important behavioural decisions such as selection of habitats, food or mates. Among arthropods, the largest animal phylum, we find completely colour-blind species as well as species with up to 40 different opsin genes or more than 10 spectral types of photoreceptors, we find a large diversity of optic
The Effects of Transnational Municipal Networks on Urban Climate Politics in the Global South
Transnational municipal networks (TMNs) have emerged as important actors in the global response to climate change. Environmentalists both within and outside governments have placed great expectations and hopes on these networks. Through their novel form of agency, TMNs are expected to provide cities with a form of ‘extra-legem’ empowerment in their responses to climate change. This empowerment is
Conclusion : Towards a ‘Deep Debate’ on the Anthropocene
In this edited volume, we explored the contributions that political science as a discipline can offer to the evolving Anthropocene debate. The term Anthropocene denotes a new geological epoch in the Earth’s history in which humans have become the main drivers of planetary-wide changes. Some authors interpret this as good news, pointing to progress as a result of human ingenuity and the endless pos
MHC class II genotype-by-pathogen genotype interaction for infection prevalence in a natural rodent-Borrelia system
MHC genes are extraordinarily polymorphic in most taxa. Host-pathogen coevolution driven by negative frequency-dependent selection (NFDS) is one of the main hypotheses for the maintenance of such immunogenetic variation. Here, we test a critical but rarely tested assumption of this hypothesis—that MHC alleles affect resistance/susceptibility to a pathogen in a strain-specific way, that is, there i
A pilot study of methods for prediction of poor outcome by head computed tomography after cardiac arrest
Introduction: In Sweden, head computed tomography (CT) is commonly used for prediction of neurological outcome after cardiac arrest, as recommended by guidelines. We compare the prognostic ability and interrater variability of routine and novel CT methods for prediction of poor outcome. Methods: Retrospective study including patients from Swedish sites within the Target Temperature Management afte
Active mechanisms of ketamine-assisted psychotherapy : A systematic review
Background: Few studies have evaluated the efficacy of ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP) in the treatment of treatment-resistant depression (TRD) and substance use disorders (SUD). Methods: A systematic review of clinical trials reporting on the efficacy of KAP and discussing mechanisms of action, identified on PubMed and PsycInfo. Results: Five randomized-controlled trials reported on the eff
Dual Control by Reinforcement Learning Using Deep Hyperstate Transition Models
In dual control, the manipulated variables are used to both regulate the system and identify unknown parameters. The joint probability distribution of the system state and the parameters is known as the hyperstate. The paper proposes a method to perform dual control using a deep reinforcement learning algorithm in combination with a neural network model trained to represent hyperstate transitions.
A modelling study of OH, NO3 and H2SO4 in 2007- 2018 at SMEAR II, Finland : Analysis of long-term trends
Major atmospheric oxidants (OH,O3 and NO3) dominate the atmospheric oxidation capacity, while H2SO4 is considered as a main driver for new particle formation. Although numerous studies have investigated the long-term trend of ozone in Europe, the trends of OH, NO3 and H2SO4 at specific sites are to a large extent unknown. The one-dimensional model SOSAA has been applied in several studies at the S
A mobile observatory powered by sun and wind for near real time measurements of atmospheric, glacial, terrestrial, limnic and coastal oceanic conditions in remote off-grid areas
Climate change is rapidly altering the Arctic environment. Although long-term environmental observations have been made at a few locations in the Arctic, the incomplete coverage from ground stations is a main limitation to observations in these remote areas. Here we present a wind and sun powered multi-purpose mobile observatory (ARC-MO) that enables near real time measurements of air, ice, land,
Development and Characterisation of a Rat Model of Parkinson's Disease
Preclinical rodent models of Parkinson’s Disease (PD) based on alpha-synuclein (αSyn) present some of the pathological hallmarks of the human condition, such as the progressive loss of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra (SN) and the development of behavioural deficits. However, numerous reports on these models highlighted the variable outcomes that might originate from them if not valida
Noninvasive Assessment of Left Ventricular Pressure-Volume Relations : Inter- and Intraobserver Variability and Assessment Across Heart Failure Subtypes
A novel method to derive pressure-volume (PV) loops noninvasively from cardiac magnetic resonance images has recently been developed. The aim of this study was to evaluate inter- and intraobserver variability of hemodynamic parameters obtained from noninvasive PV loops in healthy controls, subclinical diastolic dysfunction (SDD), and patients with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction, mi
Association Between EEG Patterns and Serum Neurofilament Light After Cardiac Arrest : A Post Hoc Analysis of the TTM Trial
Background and ObjectivesEEG is widely used for prediction of neurologic outcome after cardiac arrest. To better understand the relationship between EEG and neuronal injury, we explored the association between EEG and neurofilament light (NfL) as a marker of neuroaxonal injury, evaluated whether highly malignant EEG patterns are reflected by high NfL levels, and explored the association of EEG bac
Quaternized fluorene-based hydroxide exchange membranes and polymers: design, synthesis, and characterization
In modern society, the consumption of fossil fuels has been increasing drastically, leading to significant emissions of carbondioxide (CO2), air pollution, global warming, and political and economic imbalances. This has increased the interest inrenewable and sustainable energy sources such as wind- and hydropower, solar energy, and in energy conversion by fuel celltechnology, and water electrolyse
Defect content estimation for two reviewers
Estimation of the defect content is important to enable quality control throughout the software development process. Capture-recapture methods and curve fitting methods have been suggested as tools to estimate the defect content after a review: The methods are highly reliant on the quality of the data. If the number of reviewers is fairly small, it becomes difficult or even impossible to get relia
