Mapping societal functions, flows and dependencies to strengthen community resilience – results from an initial study

Communities are becoming increasingly dependent on critical societal functions and flows, such as energy supply, transportation of goods and people, school and health care. Dependencies between these functions and flows are also increasing. These trends imply that disruptions in the functions and flows may quickly lead to large societal consequences through domino effects which may be very difficu

N2O and NO emission from the Nyungwe tropical highland rainforest in Rwanda

Tropical forest soils are a significant source for N2O and NO. Current estimates of N2O and NO emissions areuncertain due to the limited number of fieldmeasurements and model input data. Furthermore, considerable spatialand temporal variability exists due to variation of soil properties, vegetation characteristics and meteorology.Weused a process-based model (ForestDNDC-tropica) to estimate N2O an

Managing end-users and their requirements in the construction process

The effective management of end-users and their requirements in construction projects can bring a number of benefits, for example more satisfied and less critical end-users in terms of both the product and project. Building occupants are however continually changing and with that their needs. It is thereby a challenge to understand what brings value for both known and unknown end-users. More over

Feedforward Control in the Paper Machine Drying Section

A new disturbance signal was introduced for the paper machine drying section and its feedforward control was evaluated. Control of the moisture content is conventionally accomplished by adjusting the steam pressure in the cylinders. By adding feedforward to a previously presented mid-ranging control system, the moisture disturbances rejection could be significantly improved.
