Thermal performance analysis and measurements of the prototype cryomodules of European XFEL accelerator - part I

The European X-Ray Free Electron Laser (XFEL), the research facility currently under construction in the Hamburg area, Germany, is based on a superconducting linear accelerator that brings electrons to almost the speed of light. The linear accelerator consists of 100 accelerating cryomodules (CMs) operating at the temperature of 2 K. The thermal performances of the accelerator CMs are a key elemen

Assignment of the L2,3VV normal Auger decay spectrum of Cl-2 by ab initio calculations

Auger decay processes of the Cl 2p ionized states have been studied in Cl-2 by means of high- resolution electron spectroscopy and ab initio calculations. This led to reassignment of the normal L2,3VV Auger decay spectrum of Cl2. The reliability of this assignment is strongly supported by an independent measurement of the L2; 3VV Auger electron spectrum of Cl2 which has been obtained after selecti

Challenging modeling strategies for LES of non-adiabatic turbulent stratified combustion

Five different low-Mach large eddy simulations are compared to the turbulent stratified flame experiments conducted at the Technical University of Darmstadt (TUD). The simulations were contributed by TUD, the Institute for Combustion Technology (ITV) at Aachen, Lund University (LUND), the EM2C laboratory at Ecole Centrale Paris, and the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE). Combustion is modeled by

Stepwise Disproportionation in Polyelectrolyte Complexes

Structural properties and the topology of polyelectrolyte complexes (PECs) formed in solution have been investigated under different conditions by Monte Carlo simulations using a coarse-grained model. The extension of individual polyions has been characterized by their radius of gyration, whereas the composition of the complexes has been investigated by their net charge and their internal topologi

Work Absence - A Signalling Factor for Temporary Workers?

This paper investigates whether low levels of absence increase the probability of permanent employment and reduce that of unemployment for Swedish temporary workers. We investigate two reasons for absence: worker sickness and sickness of a dependent child. Using a competing risk estimation model, we find that sick leave reduces the probability of permanent employment for women and increases the pr

The AAA(+) motor complex of subunits CobS and CobT of cobaltochelatase visualized by single particle electron microscopy.

Cobalamins belong to the tetrapyrrole family of prosthetic groups(.) The presence of a metal ion is a key feature of these compounds. In the oxygen-dependent (aerobic) cobalamin biosynthetic pathway, cobalt is inserted into a ring-contracted tetrapyrrole called hydrogenobyrinic acid a,c-diamide (HBAD) by a cobaltochelatase that is constituted by 3 subunits, CobN, CobS and CobT, with molecular mass

System analysis of a multifunctional PV/T hybrid solar window

Abstract in UndeterminedThe work presented in this article aims to investigate a PV/T hybrid solar window on a system level. A PV/T hybrid is an absorber on which solar cells have been laminated. The solar window is a PV/T hybrid collector with tiltable insulated reflectors integrated into a window. It simultaneously replaces thermal collectors, PV-modules and sunshade. The building integration lo

Loss of Function of the Melanocortin 2 Receptor Accessory Protein 2 Is Associated with Mammalian Obesity

Melanocortin receptor accessory proteins (MRAPs) modulate signaling of melanocortin receptors in vitro. To investigate the physiological role of brain-expressed melanocortin 2 receptor accessory protein 2 (MRAP2), we characterized mice with whole-body and brain-specific targeted deletion of Mrap2, both of which develop severe obesity at a young age. Mrap2 interacts directly with melanocortin 4 rec

Cold nuclear matter effects on J/psi production as constrained by deuteron-gold measurements at root S-NN=200 GeV

We present a new analysis of J/psi production yields in deuteron-gold collisions at root s(NN) =200 GeV using data taken from the PHENIX experiment in 2003 and previously published in S. S. Adler [Phys. Rev. Lett 96, 012304 (2006)]. The high statistics proton-proton J/psi data taken in 2005 are used to improve the baseline measurement and thus construct updated cold nuclear matter modification fac

Perspektivisk Textanalys (PTA). Handledning till Vertex

The present work is based on the Kantian (AaO) axiom and conceptualised as a textbook. As scientific in the true sense of the notion science, the Vertex version of Perspective Text Analysis (PTA) represents a completely new approach to text-based studies. The inter-lingual character of Vertex has been tested and established in the context of six different languages, four belonging to the German fa

The influence of detector effects on TPC performance

TPC stand alone simulations based on different energy loss models are compared to previously reported measurements with an ALICE TPC prototype. The performance obtained from simulations is shown to depend significantly on all the included detector effects stressing that energy loss model calculations alone are inadequate for describing the performance. When all effects are included, a good quantit

Nonperturbative modeling of fifth-order coherent multidimensional spectroscopy in light harvesting antennas

Recent advances in coherent multidimensional spectroscopy have boosted interest in exciton coherences in light harvesting complexes. We present nonperturbative calculations of two-dimensional (2D) electronic spectroscopy from a fifth-order phase-matching direction. The calculations show clear patterns that correspond to the electronic structure of one- and two-exciton manifolds of a Fenna-Matthews

Neurodevelopmental problems and extremes in BMI.

Background. Over the last few decades, an increasing number of studies have suggested a connection between neurodevelopmental problems (NDPs) and body mass index (BMI). Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism spectrum disorders (ASD) both seem to carry an increased risk for developing extreme BMI. However, the results are inconsistent, and there have been only a few studies of t

New records of Manota Williston (Diptera: Mycetophilidae) in Europe and North America, including a redescription of Manota unifurcata Lundström and pointers towards the interrelationships among Palaearctic species

Knowledge of the morphology of Manota unifurcata LUNDSTRÖM, 1913 is deepened by a detailed description and illustration of the male genitalia. Based on a study of the characters of the male genitalia in specimens from various countries, it is reconfirmed that M. unifurcata is the only species of Manota WILLISTON in Europe. Its geographic distribution is reviewed, and is augmented by new records fr

Associative phase behaviour and disintegration of copolymer aggregates on adding poly(acrylic acid) to aqueous solutions of a PEO-PPO-PEO triblock copolymer

The influence of adding poly(acrylic acids) of two different chain lengths (PAA(25) and PAA(6000)) on the phase behaviour of the amphiphilic triblock copolymer Pluronic (R) P104 (P104 = (EO)(27)(PO)(61)(EO)(27), where EO = ethylene oxide, PO = propylene oxide) in H2O was investigated. The resulting phase equilibria and structures were investigated by visual inspection, using crossed polarizers, an

Exploring the impact of positive and negative emotions on cooperative behaviour in a Prisoner’s Dilemma Game

Objective. To explore the influences of discrete positive and negative emotions on cooperation in the context of a social dilemma game. Design. Two controlled studies were undertaken. In Study 1, 69 participants were randomly assigned to an essay emotion manipulation task designed to induce either guilt, joy or no strong emotion. In Study 2, 95 participants were randomly assigned to one of the sam
