Individual placement and support illustrated in the Swedish welfare system: A case study

Individual Placement and Support (IPS) results in more people with severe mental illness obtaining employment in comparison to traditional vocational rehabilitation approaches. The implementation challenges of IPS vary across countries and contexts. However, the implications for IPS delivery and thus the IPS principles have not been studied in Sweden, which this embedded case study aims to investi

Increase of ventricular interval during atrial fibrillation by atrioventricular node vagal stimulation : chronic clinical atrioventricular-nodal stimulation download study

BACKGROUND: Patients with a high ventricular rate during atrial fibrillation (AF) are at increased risk of receiving inappropriate implantable cardioverter defibrillator shocks. The objective was to demonstrate the feasibility of high frequency atrioventricular-nodal stimulation (AVNS) to reduce the ventricular rate during AF to prevent inappropriate implantable cardioverter defibrillator shocks.M

Phase Field Modelling of Formation and Fracture of Expanding Precipitates

It is a common belief that embedded expanding inclusions are subjected to an internal homogeneous compressive hydrostatic stress. Still, cracks that appear in precipitates that occupy a larger volume than the original material, are frequently observed. The appearance of cracks has since long been regarded as a paradox. In the present study it is shown that matrix materials that increases its volum

The relation between longshore variations in grain size distribution and sediment transport processes

This study investigates the relationship between grain-size distributions and sediment transport processes at Ängelholm Beach in southwest Sweden. In total, 308 longshore and cross-shore distributed sediment samples are analysed with respect to median grain size and sorting. The longshore sediment transport is almost unidirectional from north to south. Its gradients cause erosion in the north and

Identification of the Subunit Structure of Rat Pineal Adrenergic Receptors by Photoaffinity Labeling

Abstract: The adrenergic receptors of rat pineal gland were investigated using radiolabeled ligand binding and photoaffinity labeling techniques. 125I‐2‐[β‐(4‐hydroxyphenyl)ethylaminomethyl]tetralone (125I‐HEAT) and 125I‐cyanopindolol (125I‐CYP) labeled specific sites on rat pineal gland membranes with equilibrium dissociation constants (KD) of 48 (±5) pM and 30 (±5) pM, respectively. Binding site

Women’s CSOs and Political Parties in Romania : Lessons from the 2012 Civic Protests

This chapter examines the communicational dynamic between adaptive and flexible CSOs. It focuses on women’s issues and citizen protest movements on the one hand, and political parties on the other, against the background of the extended protests that took place in Romania in the first half of 2012. These protests led to two changes in the government coalition and a significant reshuffling of the R

Photoaffinity cross-linking of a radioiodinated probe, 125I-A55453, into alpha1-adrenergic receptors

We have synthesized and characterized a high-affinity alpha1-adrenergic receptor probe, 4-amino-6,7-dimethoxy-2[4'-[5''-(3-125I-iodo-4-aminophenyl)pentan oyl]-1'-piperazinyl]quinazoline (125I-A55453). This ligand binds reversibly to rat hepatic plasma membranes with high affinity (K(D) = 77 ± 6 pM), and it labels the same number of 'specific' prazosin-competable sites as the alpha1-adrenergic rece

Photoaffinity labeling of mammalian α1-adrenergic receptors. Identification of the ligand binding subunit with a high affinity radioiodinated probe

We have synthesized and characterized a novel high affinity radioiodinated α1-adrenergic receptor photoaffinity probe, 4-amino-6,7-dimethoxy-2-[4-[5-(4-azido-3-[125I]iodophenyl)pentanoyl]-1-p iperazinyl] quinazoline. In the absence of light, this ligand binds with high affinity (K(D) = 130 pM) in a reversible and saturable manner to sites in rat hepatic plasma membranes. The binding is stereoselec

The Association between Serum Testosterone and Risk Factors for Atherosclerosis

Objective: To study the associations between serum testosterone and risk factors for atherosclerosis in 119 men from general population. Methods: Systolic pressure, body mass index (BMI), testosterone, fasting glucose, glucose tolerance test, apolipoprotein A-1 (ApoA-1), apolipoprotein B (ApoB), and ApoB/ApoA-1 ratio were assessed. Subjects classified into hypogonadal (testosterone ≤ 12 nmol/l), a

Role of foliar feeding of micronutrients in yield maximization of cotton in Punjab

Deficiency of micronutrients, particularly of zinc, boron, and iron, in calcareous soils is of great concern. Results indicate a reduction in yield of seed-cotton due to an imbalance of nutrients, particularly micronutrients, on calcareous soils in the last decade. About 90% of Pakistani soils are deficient in micronutrients, particularly zinc, boron, and iron. This paper highlights efforts to ove

Root trait plasticity and plant nutrient acquisition in phosphorus limited soil

To overcome soil nutrient limitation, many plants have developed complex nutrient acquisition strategies including altering root morphology, root hair formation or colonization by arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF). The interactions of these strategies and their plasticity are, however, affected by soil nutrient status throughout plant growth. Such plasticity is decisive for plant phosphorus (P) a

A socio-technical perspective to counter cyber-enabled industrial espionage

The ubiquitous digitization of information and the pervasive connectivity of work systems have inevitably facilitated cyber-enabled industrial espionage. Security failures explain most of cyber industrial espionage incidents, and insider threats represent a significant pattern in many case examples. Insiders can inadvertently or purposefully pose serious threats to organisations by facilitating ac

Phylogeny of nematode-trapping fungi based on 18S rDNA sequences

The small subunit (SSU) ribosomal DNA (18S rDNA) from 15 species of nematode-trapping fungi and closely related non-parasitic species were sequenced. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that species within the genera of Arthrobotrys, Dactylaria, Dactylella, Monacrosporium and Duddingtonia formed a monophyletic and isolated clade among an unresolved cluster of apothecial ascomycetes. The phylogenetic p

The Choreography of Gender in Traditional Vietnamese Music

This Ph.D. project in artistic research is concerned with the function of gesture in traditional Vietnamese music. Building on gender analysis of musical performance in TV shows, and further on autoethnographic inquiry throughout the artistic projects, the artistic output articulates a critical understanding of these practices. The aims of the project are to investigate the social function and mea

Thermoelectric Effects and Single Electron Sources in Mesoscopic Transport; a Scattering Approach

This thesis concerns the theoretical analysis of thermoelectric transport properties and single electron sources in mesoscopic conductors. Wepropose two types of thermoelectric heat engines and analyze them with thehelp of performance quantifiers. We also investigate and compare theproperties of different single electron sources, focusing on their coupledcharge and energy transport. As a common de

A Critical Review of Empirical Evidence on Radicalisation; a Social Identity Theory Perspective

Early models of radicalisation of belief and the use of violence were described in terms of progressive linear models; staircases (Moghaddam, 2005), pathways (McCauley & Moskalenko, 2008) and conveyor belts (see Pankhurst, 2013). In association with the different proposed models, definitions of radicalisation are often chosen by the researcher, resulting in inconsistencies within theliterature

Cryogels with high cisplatin adsorption capacity : Towards removal of cytotoxic drugs from wastewater

Macroporous cryogels for capturing cisplatin were synthesized by cryogelation polymerization of methacrylic acid and 2-hydroxyethyl metacrylate. The cryogel materials exhibited good mechanical property, high swelling ratio and high affinity for cisplatin, with an adsorption capacity of up to 150 mg cisplatin per gram of cryogel. The correlation between the capacity of the cryogel and the monomer c
