Social democracy and the fate of the swedish model
Sweden attracted much attention as an interesting socioeconomic role model already in the 1930s, especially after Marquis Childs published his famous and influential book, The Swedish Middle Way (1936). Childs’ main argument was that the “Swedish model” was a successful “socialist” policy with a growing cooperative sector-as a counterbalance to the private sector-and effective crisis management. O
Characterizing of water-energy-emission nexus of coal-fired power industry using entropy weighting method
The coupled relationships among water, energy, and emission, i.e., water-energy-emission nexus (WEEN), are found to be spatial-temporally characterized. This research is aimed at evaluating the spatial-temporal characteristics of the WEEN of the selected 227 coal-fired power plants in China from 2012 to 2014 by employing the entropy weighting method. Firstly, the WEEN performances (the sub-indicat
Absence of ECG Task Force Criteria does not rule out structural changes in genotype positive ARVC patients
Aims: In Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy (ARVC), electrophysiological pathology has been claimed to precede morphological and functional pathology. Accordingly, an ECG without ARVC markers should be rare in ARVC patients with pathology identified by cardiac imaging. We quantified the prevalence of ARVC patients with evidence of structural disease, yet without ECG Task Force Criteri
Best practices for cystometric evaluation of lower urinary tract function in muriform rodents
Aims: Rodent cystometry has provided valuable insights into the impact of the disease, injury, and aging on the cellular and molecular pathways, neurologic processes, and biomechanics of lower urinary tract function. The purpose of this white paper is to highlight the benefits and shortcomings of different experimental methods and strategies and to provide guidance on the proper interpretation of
Root-zone soil moisture variability across African savannas : From pulsed rainfall to land-cover switches
The main source of soil moisture variability in savanna ecosystems is pulsed rainfall. Rainfall pulsing impacts water-stress durations, soil moisture switching between wet-to-dry and dry-to-wet states, and soil moisture spectra as well as derived measures from it such as soil moisture memory. Rainfall pulsing is also responsible for rapid changes in grassland leaf area and concomitant changes in e
LES/PDF modeling of swirl-stabilized non-premixed methane/air flames with local extinction and re-ignition
Turbulent non-premixed flames with local extinction and re-ignition exhibit multiple combustion modes including ignition waves, diffusion flames, partially premixed flames, and ignition-assisted partially premixed flames. The mechanisms of local extinction and re-ignition are not well understood and numerical modeling of multi-mode combustion is a challenging task. In this work, a specially design
How can airborne transmission of COVID-19 indoors be minimised?
During the rapid rise in COVID-19 illnesses and deaths globally, and notwithstanding recommended precautions, questions are voiced about routes of transmission for this pandemic disease. Inhaling small airborne droplets is probable as a third route of infection, in addition to more widely recognized transmission via larger respiratory droplets and direct contact with infected people or contaminate
Neck and upper extremity pain in sonographers - a longitudinal study
BACKGROUND: Sonographers have reported a high occurrence of musculoskeletal pain for more than 25 years. Assessments of occupational risk factors have previously been based on cross-sectional surveys. The aim of this longitudinal study was to determine which factors at baseline that were associated with neck/shoulder and elbow/hand pain at follow-up.METHODS: A questionnaire was answered by 248 fem
When regional meets global : exploring the nature of global innovation networks in the video game industry in Southern Sweden
For firms in symbolic (creative) industries, the region is usually seen as the main arena for knowledge sourcing and exchange. Why and how these firms use global innovation networks remains however poorly understood. This paper draws on in-depth interviews with firm representatives and network data collected through a survey of video game developers in southern Sweden. Video game development is a
Understanding side-effects of anti-CGRP and anti-CGRP receptor antibodies
Thrombin-derived C-terminal fragments aggregate and scavenge bacteria and their proinflammatory products
Thrombin-derived C-terminal peptides (TCPs), including a major 11-kDa fragment (TCP96), are produced through cleavage by human neutrophil elastase and aggregate lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and the Gram-negative bacterium Escherichia coli. However, the physiological roles of TCP96 in controlling bacterial infections and reducing LPS-induced inflammation are unclear. Here, using various biophysical met
Scattering Studies with Low-Energy Kaon-Proton Femtoscopy in Proton-Proton Collisions at the LHC
The study of the strength and behavior of the antikaon-nucleon (K[over ¯]N) interaction constitutes one of the key focuses of the strangeness sector in low-energy quantum chromodynamics (QCD). In this Letter a unique high-precision measurement of the strong interaction between kaons and protons, close and above the kinematic threshold, is presented. The femtoscopic measurements of the correlation
Development of a cartilage oligomeric matrix protein neo-epitope assay for the detection of intra-thecal tendon disease
The diagnosis of tendon injury relies on clinical signs and diagnostic imaging but imaging is subjective and does not always correlate with clinical signs. A molecular marker would potentially offer a sensitive and specific diagnostic tool that could also provide objective assessment of healing for the comparison of different treatments. Cartilage Oligomeric Matrix Protein (COMP) has been used as
EUDAQ - A data acquisition software framework for common beam telescopes
EUDAQ is a generic data acquisition software developed for use in conjunction with common beam telescopes at charged particle beam lines. Providing high-precision reference tracks for performance studies of new sensors, beam telescopes are essential for the research and development towards future detectors for high-energy physics. As beam time is a highly limited resource, EUDAQ has been designed
The influence of ischemia and reperfusion time on outcome in heart transplantation
Ischemia/reperfusion may lead to graft dysfunction in heart transplantation (HT). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of ischemic and reperfusion time on acute cellular rejection (ACR) within the first-year post-HT and on long-term outcomes. Data were collected from 331 patients (mean age 49 ± 12 y, 28% females) who underwent HT 1988-2016. Endomyocardial biopsies obtained withi
