Can better sex education tackle the rise in female genital cosmetic surgery?

It has been suggested that “comprehensive sex education” is part of the solution for the rise in female genital cosmetic surgery (FGCS). This chapter represents the first attempt to outline what such sex education might entail. The strengths and weaknesses of sex education approaches are discussed. The inclusion of more accurate information relating to genital appearance and sexuality diversity an

The centrality of doubting and checking in the network structure of obsessive-compulsive symptom dimensions in youth

Objective. Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a heterogeneous condition with well-established symptom dimensions across the lifespan. The objective of the present study was to use network analysis to investigate the internal structure and central features of these dimensions in unselected schoolchildren and in youth with OCD.Method. We estimated the network structure of OCD symptom dimensions

A Round Robin of Fire Modelling for Performance Based Design

Nine participants, representing eight different Swedish fire consultancy firms participated in a Round Robin study where two different fire scenarios were simulated with the Fire Dynamics Simulator. The participants were given clear instructions on the building layout and heat release rate for the two scenarios. Still, the results demonstrate a significant variation in time to sprinkler system act

I sammanställningen besk

Binding of prothrombin to chyle chylomicrons: effects of temperatuure and calcium ions, and role of surface phospholipids.

The ability of chyle chylomicrons to bind prothrombin has been studied. Rat chyle chylomicrons were incubated with human 125I-prothrombin and binding was examined by separating the chylomicrons from free 125-I-prothrombin by density-gradient ultracentrifugation, and by gel filtration on Sepharose CL-2B. A significant binding of prothrombin to chyle chylomicrons occurred. The complex formation was

Evaluation of simple enzyme kinetics by response surface modelling

The activity of a horse liver alcohol dehydrogenase catalysed reduction of cyclohexanone was investigated by using a central composite circumscribed design in which two parameters (pH and cyclohexanone concentration) were varied. By log transformation of the substrate concentration an adequate model could be obtained from which reliable kinetic constants and pH profiles were determined.

Impact of Epithelial-Stromal Interactions on Peritumoral Fibroblasts in Ductal Carcinoma in Situ

BACKGROUND: A better definition of biomarkers and biological processes related to local recurrence and disease progression is highly warranted for ductal breast carcinoma in situ (DCIS). Stromal-epithelial interactions are likely of major importance for the biological, clinical, and pathological distinctions between high- and low-risk DCIS cases.METHODS: Stromal platelet derived growth factor rece

Chiral perturbation theory and mesons

The talk contains a short introduction to mesonic Chiral Perturbation Theory (ChPT). In addition four disparate areas where some progress has been made in recent years are discussed. These are the last fit of the order p4 low-energy-constants Lri to data, hard pion ChPT, the recent twoloop work on EFT for QCD like theories and the high order leading logarithm calculations in the massive O(N) nonli

Polygenetic risk for coronary artery disease increases hospitalization burden and mortality

Background: Coronary artery disease (CAD) is a leading cause of death worldwide and increasing cost for society. Genome wide association studies (GWAS) have identified common variants associated with CAD. Combining single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) into a genetic risk score (GRS) can estimate an individual's genetic burden. Objectives: To investigate whether GRS for CAD can predict hospitaliz

Effectiveness of platelet-rich plasma in healing necrobiosis lipoidica diabeticorum ulcers

Necrobiosis lipoidica diabeticorum (NLD) is a chronic condition, which is characterized by single or multiple lesions on the legs, and occurs in 0.3% of patients with diabetes. Recently, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has been used in several clinical settings to promote sustained healing and better outcome. We propose the use of PRP for the treatment of NLD-associated recalcitrant wounds. In this stu

Hadronic τ Decays as New Physics Probes in the LHC Era

We analyze the sensitivity of hadronic τ decays to nonstandard interactions within the model-independent framework of the standard model effective field theory. Both exclusive and inclusive decays are studied, using the latest lattice data and QCD dispersion relations. We show that there are enough theoretically clean channels to disentangle all the effective couplings contributing to these decays

Robust Self-calibration of Constant Offset Time-difference-of-arrival

In this paper we study the problem of estimating receiver and sender positions from time-difference-of-arrival measurements, assuming an unknown constant time-difference-of-arrival offset. This problem is relevant for example for repetitive sound events. In this paper it is shown that there are three minimal cases to the problem. One of these (the five receiver, five sender problem) is of particul

Ultraviolet phototherapy of pruritus.

It has been known for more than 2000 years that several skin diseases improve upon exposure to the sun. However, it was not until the end of the 19th century before Niels R. Finsen started to use sunlight as well as electric light for the treatment of skin tuberculosis.1 He was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1903 “in recognition of his contribution to the treatment of diseases, especially lupus vulgar

Thermal performance enhancement in a wedge duct with in-line pin fins combined with vortex generators

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to enhance the heat transfer and thermal performance in the trailing edge region of the vane with vortex generators (VGs). Design/methodology/approach: This numerical study presents the enhancement of thermal performance in the trailing part of a gas turbine blade. In the trailing part, generally, pin fins are used either in staggered or in-line arrangements t

Kinetic evaluation of lime for medium-temperature desulfurization in oxy-fuel conditions by dry sorbent injection

With increasing emphasis on the control of greenhouse gases, power plants may move towards oxy-fuel technologies rather than air-fired plants. This move leads to a change in the feed to the desulfurization unit, which also needs to be adapted along with the power plant. Most existing plants already have functioning desulfurization units, which need to be retrofitted for the new conditions. In the
