Molecular design and synthesis of hydroxide ion exchange membranes carrying alicyclic quaternary ammonium cations

Significantresearch efforts are currently directed towards the synthesis and studies of durable anion exchange membranes (AEMs) with the aim to develop alkaline fuel cells and electrolyzers able to operate efficiently without platinum-groupmetal catalysts [1]. The grand challenge is to identify and synthesize polymeric AEM materials possessingthe necessary chemical and thermal stability. Studies o

Computerised perimetry

During the last few years computerised perimetry has become a clinical reality. This new technique eliminates the operator's error, ensures reproducibility of test procedures and parameters and makes visual field testing of large numbers of patients possible. Great differences exist between computerised perimeters. Differences in hardware for example, the way in which stimuli or field charts are p

Association between changes in molecular biomarkers of cartilage matrix turnover and changes in knee articular cartilage : a longitudinal pilot study

Background: An early detection of Osteoarthritis is urgently needed and still not possible until today. The aim of the study was to assess whether molecular biomarkers of cartilage turnover are associated with longitudinal change in knee cartilage thickness during a 2 year period in individuals with increased risk of developing knee osteoarthritis. A secondary aim was to assess whether prior knee

Nociceptive C fibre input to the primary somatosensory cortex (SI). A field potential study in the rat.

In the present study, noxious thermal stimulation of the skin with short pulses of CO2-laser radiation was used to identify a cutaneous nociceptive C fibre input to SI and investigate the organization of this input in halothane-nitrous oxide anaesthetized rats. Noxious CO2-laser stimulation of the glabrous skin of the hindpaw consistently evoked late surface positive field potentials in SI (averag

Exclusive electroproduction of φ mesons at 4.2 GeV

We studied the exclusive reaction e→pe′p′φ using the →φK+K− decay mode. The data were collected using a 4.2 GeV incident electron beam and the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS) at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. Our experiment covers the range in Q2 from 0.7 to 2.2 GeV2, and W from 2.0 to 2.6 GeV. Taken together with all previous data, we find a consistent picture of φ

Total hip replacement after nailing failure in femoral neck fractures

Forty patients were treated by means of total hip arthroplasty after nailing of femoral neck fractures had failed. Their average age was 73 years. Thirty-eight patients were still alive after 2 years and were reviewed. Two hips dislocated, but there was no early mortality. The results regarding pain, walking capacity, and function were good, and total hip replacement is considered to be the salvag

The Longitudinal and transverse response of the He-4 (e,e-prime p) reaction in the dip region

A high-resolution study of the (e,e'p) reaction on Helium-4 was carried out at the Institut fuer Kernphysik in Mainz, Germany. The measurements were done in parallel kinematics (momentum transfer q=685 MeV/c, energy transfer omega=334 MeV) at different incident beam energies in order to enable the Rosenbluth separation of the longitudinal and transverse response functions.

The epidemiology of scaphoid fractures in Sweden : a nationwide registry study

The epidemiology of scaphoid fractures has been described in limited populations, and incidence reports have been inconsistent. We investigated the nationwide incidence of scaphoid fractures by evaluating data on 34,377 patients in the Swedish National Patient Register for the years 2006–2015 regarding diagnosis, age, sex and treatment. The data were validated in 300 random patients, and incidence

JitterTime 1.0—Reference Manual

This technical report describes JitterTime, a Matlab toolbox for calculating the time-varying state covariance of a mixed continuous/discrete linear system driven by white noise. It also integrates a quadratic cost function for the system. The passing of time and the updating of the discrete-time systems are explicitly managed by the user in a simulation run. Since the timing is completely handled

Polyacrylamides as immobilization supports for use of hydrolytic enzymes in organic media

Polyacrylamide beads and celite were used for immobilization of bovine α-chymotrypsin and lipase B from Candida antarctica. Polyacrylamides with a high degree of cross-linking afforded high catalytic rates when used as immobilization matrices. Derivatization of the polymer with carboxyl and tertiary amino groups prior to immobilization caused no significant changes in α-chymotrypsin behavior. The
