In 2014, a law intended to make increased use of life sentences in murder convictions was passed by a large margin in parliament. However, during the remittance leading up to its passing, it had taken flak from the referral bodies, criticizing it for being uncalled for and ill-prepared. Two years after its passing, it was in effect invalidated by a supreme court ruling. In response the government
