A Novel Automated Platform for Quantifying the Extent of Skeletal Tumour Involvement in Prostate Cancer Patients Using the Bone Scan Index.
BACKGROUND: There is little consensus on a standard approach to analysing bone scan images. The Bone Scan Index (BSI) is predictive of survival in patients with progressive prostate cancer (PCa), but the popularity of this metric is hampered by the tedium of the manual calculation. OBJECTIVE: Develop a fully automated method of quantifying the BSI and determining the clinical value of automated
Face-to-Face, Buzz and Knowledge Bases: Socio-spatial implications for learning and innovation policy
While concurring with the new streams of literature in geography that highlight the importance of face-to-face and buzz in the globalizing learning economy, the article argues that this literature is misleading on three interrelated accounts. Firstly, it conflates face-to-face and buzz; secondly, it fails to distinguish between the importance of face-to-face and buzz for industries drawing on diff

Expression levels of HMGA2 in adipocytic tumors correlate with morphologic and cytogenetic subgroups.
BACKGROUND: The HMGA2 gene encodes a protein that alters chromatin structure. Deregulation, typically through chromosomal rearrangements, of HMGA2 has an important role in the development of several mesenchymal neoplasms. These rearrangements result in the expression of a truncated protein lacking the acidic C-terminus, a fusion protein consisting of the AT-hook domains encoded by exons 1-3 and pa
The variability in ultrafiltration achieved with icodextrin, possibly explained.
BACKGROUND: A recent study by Jeloka et al. (Perit Dial Int 2006; 26:336-40) highlighted the high variability in maximum ultrafiltered volume (UF(max)) and the corresponding dwell time (t(max)) obtained using 7.5% icodextrin solution. We aimed to pinpoint the possible sources of this phenomenon by simulating the icodextrin ultrafiltration (UF) profiles according to the three-pore model of peritone

A Programmable 10b up-to-6MS/s SAR-ADC Featuring Constant-FoM with On-Chip Reference Voltage Buffers
A 10bit SAR-ADC implemented in a 1.2V 0.13mum CMOS with 1VppdiffFS, based on capacitive-charge redistribution can be programmed with Fs up-to-6MS/s, guaranteeing an ENOB>9b with a SFDR>74dB. The static INL and DNL are 0.6LSB and 0.55LSB, respectively. On-chip reference buffer have been added and their power consumption dominates, giving a FoMap1pJ/conv. Sharing these buffers with other blocks in S

Constraining the geometry to study jet energy loss with 2-particle correlations
Correlations between two high-pT hadrons provide information on how partons lose energy as they travel through the dense plasma formed at RHIC. To vary the path length partons travel, we measure the back-to-back jets in the AA collision of centrality and reaction-plane dependence, in addition to '2+1' particle correlations, and compare with p+p results.

Lithuanian general practitioners' knowledge of confidentiality laws in adolescent sexual and reproductive healthcare: a cross-sectional study.
BACKGROUND: In Lithuania, the legislation addressing confidentiality in adolescent healthcare is contradictory and vague. Previous studies have also revealed that medico-legal knowledge among physicians is poor, and attitudes play a correspondingly greater role than legal knowledge in ensuring the confidentiality of patients. OBJECTIVE: To survey the knowledge of Lithuanian general practitioner (G
Scoring models of a diet quality index and the predictive capability of mortality in a population-based cohort of Swedish men and women.
OBJECTIVE: To examine how different scoring models for a diet quality index influence associations with mortality outcomes. DESIGN: A study within the Malmö Diet and Cancer cohort. Food and nutrient intakes were estimated using a diet history method. The index included six components: SFA, PUFA, fish and shellfish, fibre, fruit and vegetables, and sucrose. Component scores were assigned using pre
