Objects as Subjects : Agency and Performativity in Rituals
In ritual theory, ritual objects have mostly been discussed in terms of symbols and interpretations. But objects that are employed in rituals are not merely passive carriers of attached cultural meanings. In this article I discuss how objects not only become animated but also animate the ritual field. As ritual agents they have important performative functions in the field of transformations. The
Are the Sweden Democrats really Sweden’s largest party? : A maximum likelihood ratio test on the simplex
We introduce a maximum likelihood ratio test to test if a specific proportion is the greatest in a multinomial situation with a single measurement. The test is based on partitioning the parameter space and utilising logratio transformations.

Ett litet stycke av Helsingborg : Om flytt och framväxt av stadskvarteren på Fredriksdal
A piece of Helsingborg – about the moving of older buildings from the town and the making of an urban area at the Fredriksdal open-air museum The article tells the different stories of how fifteen houses, which during a period from the late 1930s until the 1960s, were moved from the town centre to the open-air museum at Fredriksdal, a part of the municipality museum. It depicts the struggle betwee
Verbs in speech framing expressions : Comparing English and Spanish
In this large-scale corpus study, we explore how direct speech is portrayed in English and Spanish Speech Framing Expressions (SFEs).While the whole SFE is taken into account in the semantic analysis, our specific focus is the finite verb of the SFE. The study has two aims. Firstly, we survey the use of verbs in SFEs and offer a comprehensive inventory of those verbs in English and Spanish as repr

Rate of comorbidities in giant cell arteritis : A population-based study
Objective. To compare the rate of occurrence of comorbidities, including severe infections, in a population-based cohort of patients with biopsy-proven giant cell arteritis (GCA) with a reference population in Southern Sweden. Methods. The study included a population-based cohort of biopsy-proven GCA cases diagnosed between 1998 and 2010 from the Skane region in Southern Sweden (population: 1.2 mi

Tuberculosis along the continuum of HIV care in a cohort of adolescents living with HIV in Ethiopia
SETTING: Eight health facilities in Ethiopia. OBJECTIVE: To determine tuberculosis (TB) incidence rates and associated factors among adolescents living with the human immunodeficiency virus (ALHIV). DESIGN: This was a retrospective cohort study. Adolescents enrolled in HIV care between January 2005 and 31 December 2013 constituted the study population. The main outcome variable was TB diagnosis du
Discretized multi-level elution trajectory: A proof-of-concept demonstration
Biomolecular and pharmaceutical downstream processing is dominated by chromatographic separation, which is associated with high product quality, low capacity and high costs. The separation can be optimized to minimize the costs while achieving a high purity. This paper presents an experimental validation of a discretized multi-level elution (DiME) trajectory, implemented on commercially available
Long-term efficacy and safety of α1 proteinase inhibitor treatment for emphysema caused by severe α1 antitrypsin deficiency : an open-label extension trial (RAPID-OLE)
Background Purified α1 proteinase inhibitor (A1PI) slowed emphysema progression in patients with severe α1 antitrypsin deficiency in a randomised controlled trial (RAPID-RCT), which was followed by an open-label extension trial (RAPID-OLE). The aim was to investigate the prolonged treatment effect of A1PI on the progression of emphysema as assessed by the loss of lung density in relation to RAPID-
Role of biologics targeting type 2 airway inflammation in asthma : What have we learned so far?
Purpose of review Severe asthma is a heterogeneous syndrome that can be classified into distinct phenotypes and endotypes. In the type 2 (T2)-high endotype, multiple cytokines are produced that lead to eosinophilic inflammation. These cytokines and their receptors are targets for biologic therapies in patients with severe asthma who do not respond well to standard therapy with inhaled corticostero
Targeting Integrin α4β7 in Steroid-Refractory Intestinal Graft-versus-Host Disease
Steroid refractory acute graft-versus-host-disease of the gut is a serious complication associated with high mortality after allogeneic stem cell transplantation. Treatment options are limited and not predictably effective. We describe the treatment of steroid-refractory acute graft-versus-host-disease with vedolizumab, an antibody directed against integrin α4β7, in 6 patients. All patients respon

Modeling and Testing of Insulation Degradation due to Dynamic Thermal Loading of Electrical Machines
Electrical machines in electrified vehicles are subjected to dynamic loadings at different driving conditions, which results in dynamic temperatures. The aging of the Electrical Insulation System (EIS) in electrical machines is caused by these dynamic temperatures, namely high average temperatures and temperature cycles. In addition, the degradation of EIS affects the lifetime of the electrical ma

High androgen levels protect against hypothyroidism
Introduction: Hypothyroidism is a common disorder, appearing mainly in women although less frequently found in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). The objective was to test the hypothesis that hyperandrogenism might protect against hypothyroidism. Material and methods: The data from three prospective follow-up studies (up to 21 years) and one register study were compared: women with PCOS
Definition of sensitive skin : An expert position paper from the special interest group on sensitive skin of the international forum for the study of itch
Sensitive skin is a frequent complaint in the general population, in patients, and among subjects suffering from itch. The International Forum for the Study of Itch (IFSI) decided to initiate a special interest group (SIG) on sensitive skin. Using the Delphi method, sensitive skin was defined as “A syndrome defined by the occurrence of unpleasant sensations (stinging, burning, pain, pruritus, and
Cost and clinical outcome of islet transplantation in Norway 2010-2015
Islet transplantation is a minimally invasive β-cell replacement strategy. Islet transplantation is a reimbursed treatment in Norway. Here, we summarize the cost and clinical outcome of 31 islet transplantations performed at Oslo University Hospital (OUS) from January 2010 to June 2015. Patients were retrospectively divided into three groups. Thirteen patients received either one or two islet tran
