Point interactions: PT-Hermiticity and reality of the spectrum
General point interactions for the second derivative operator in one dimension are studied. In particular, cal PT-self-adjoint point interactions with the support at the origin and at points +/-l are considered. The spectrum of such non-Hermitian operators is investigated and conditions when the spectrum is pure real are presented. The results are compared with those for standard self-adjoint poin

A Trip to the University College, Swansea, and the Central Electric Generating Board, Gloucester
This report summarizes experiences and conclusions from a trip to University College Swansea, Swansea, Wales, the Central Electric Generation Board (CEGB), Barnwood, Gloucester, England and Marconi Instruments Limited, Scotland. The aim of the trip was to exchange information and discuss various issues incomputer aided control engineering.
Is neonatal phototherapy associated with an increased risk for hospitalized childhood bronchial asthma?
This population-based register study examined if factors during the fetal and neonatal period influence the risk for the child to develop bronchial asthma (asthma). From the Swedish Hospital Discharge Register we identified children, born between 1987 and 1999, who had been hospitalized for asthma up to 2001. Thus, the outcome measure contains only hospitalized cases, not all children with asthma.

Duodenitis: a reliable radiologic diagnosis?
The authors performed a retrospective study of 50 patients with endoscopically diagnosed duodenitis who had undergone double-contrast upper gastrointestinal (GI) examinations. Duodenitis was diagnosed on the original radiographic reports in six of 37 patients (16%) with mild-to-moderate duodenitis, five of 13 patients (38%) with severe duodenitis, and 11 of 50 patients (22%) with all grades of duo

Muscarinic receptor density in the rat urinary bladder after denervation, hypertrophy and urinary diversion
Parasympathetic denervation of the urinary bladder results in supersensitivity to muscarinic agonists and in bladder hypertrophy. In the present study, the effects of denervation on the muscarinic receptors in the rat bladder were investigated, using a receptor binding technique with (-)3H-QNB as radioligand. The density of muscarinic receptors was increased in denervated, hypertrophied bladders b
Hormone-sensitive lipase, the rate-limiting enzyme in triglyceride hydrolysis, is expressed and active in beta-cells
Triglycerides in the beta-cell may be important for stimulus-secretion coupling, through provision of a lipid-derived signal, and for pathogenetic events in NIDDM, where lipids may adversely affect beta-cell function. In adipose tissues, hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL) is rate-limiting in triglyceride hydrolysis. Here, we investigated whether this enzyme is also expressed and active in beta-cells.
Bone mass changes in weight-loaded and unloaded skeletal regions following a fracture of the hip
Higher bone mineral density (BMD) has been reported in weight-loaded skeletal regions and lower BMD in unloaded regions in active athletes compared with controls. These discrepancies remain the first decades after cessation of active careers in former athletes with no remaining discrepancies found after age 65 years compared with age- and gender-matched controls. Physical activity is reduced after

Refugee Return Migration: Return migration from Sweden to Chile, Iran and Poland 1973-1996
In this paper, return migration from Sweden to three sources of refugee immigration is analysed, with a focus on the effect of political change in 1990. Chilean immigrants reacted more strongly to political liberalization in the home country than Polish immigrants did, primarily due to more favourable economic circumstances in Chile compared to Poland in the 1990s. In fact, the increase in Polish
Constraining the very heavy elemental abundance peak in the chemically peculiar star χ Lupi, with new atomic data for Os II and Ir II
The determination of elemental abundances plays an important role inunderstanding the atmospheric processes that lead to anomalies inspectra of chemically peculiar stars. Ongoing study of the HgMn star χ Lupi has defined much of the elemental abundance distribution but progress is dependent upon the availability and accuracy of the atomic data. Here we present experimentally determined wavelengths
The middle Cambrian Ptychagnostus punctuosus and Goniagnostus nathorsti zones in Vastergotland, Sweden
New trilobite discoveries from eight localities in Vastergotland, south-central Sweden, demonstrate that the middle Cambrian Ptychagnostus punctuosus and Goniagnostus nathorsti zones are present in most Lower Palaeozoic outcrop areas of Vastergotland, though as a thin and impersistent conglomeratic limestone, up to approximately 15 cm thick. These zones have not previously been recognised in Vaste
Numerical Prediciton of Heat Flux from Flame in Room Fire
A number of CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) calculations were carried out to simulate the large scale room corner fire, which is an important scenario for the evaluation of the fire performance of the surface lining material. Considered are turbulent gas flows, turbulent combustion, radiation and heat conduction inside solid boundary. Heat transfer from flame and hot gas is calculated, with the
Extensive acute deep vein thrombosis of the iliocaval segment: midterm results of thrombolysis and stent placement.
PURPOSE: To evaluate patency and clinical outcome in patients treated with catheter-directed thrombolysis and stent placement for acute extensive thrombosis affecting the iliocaval segment. MATERIALS AND METHODS: During a 10-year period (1994-2005), 37 patients with 44 limbs (26 female, median age 31 years) with acute extensive venous thrombosis affecting the iliocaval segment were treated with ca

The Fallen World in Coleridge’s Poetry
This study examines the motif of the Fallen World in Coleridge’s major poems The Ancient Mariner, Christabel and Kubla Khan . The use of Milton’s Paradise Lost as an intertextual foil throughout allows themes and metaphors inherent in the Fallen World motif to emerge in Coleridge’s poetry. A Fall presupposes a standard from which one has been separated downwards. Primarily, it is understood as man
