EU:s gemensamma utrikes- och säkerhetspolitik - En studie om dess uppkomst och institutionella utformning

This thesis aims to explain the emergence of the Common Foreign and Security Policy of the European Union, and its institutional shaping, by using elements of Neofunctionalism and Liberal Intergovernmentalism. Using Neofunctionalism, the Common Foreign and Security Policy can be explained both as a side-effect of Europe's economic integration, and as a way to maintain the former and the Europ

"Reciprocication in Democratization" - A Field Study on Mayan Political Participation in Guatemala

Over the centuries the Mayan indigenous population has been excluded from power politics in Guatemala. During the last decades much attention by scholars has been placed on the Mayan movement, as a new and unconventional political actor. In this study I examine why and how this actor has emerged, with specific consideration on the shift from class to culture. By drawing on theories of civil societ

På EU:s gränser Den nya nordliga dimensionen

In this paper I attempt to analyze the ways the European Union defines its external borders in cross-border co-operation with its neighbours. The analysis is based on case study examining the founding components of a updated version of the Northern Dimension policy of the European Union. The analytical framework of the study is composed of three different perceptions on the cross-border co-operat

Youth learning for sustainable development : analysis of experiences of online learning

This study is a part of the research project Learning in the ICT-extended university (LiEU), which is conducted by Centre for Learning Lund at Lund University. The purpose of this study is to describe and analyse how upper secondary school students have experienced the Young Masters Program (YMP) and their learning process in the field of sustainable development in the ICT-mediated course with iss

Coaching i socialt arbete

This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between perceived popularity, social information processing and working memory. With the intentions of examining popularity 209 (98 female, 111 male) children in second and fourth grade were presented with a roster of their classmates and were to nominate whom they liked and whom they disliked. To study working memory capacity a working memo

Grässjön var före 1909 en del av den tills då mycket större VielånThere are records of lowering of the water level in a lot of the Swedish lakes from the middle of the 1700th century. The aim was gaining more areable land to meet the needs of more food to support the expanding population. In areas with top soil which contents of clay or loam as in the southwest of Scania in southern Sweden this was proven to be a successful way expanding the total outcome of the

Arctic aerosol and long-range transport.

Resultatet har analyserats och utvärderats med hjälp av 10 dagars baklAerosols have been measured at the Zeppelin station, at Ny-Ålesund, Svalbard, from March 2000 to April 2001. Two instruments were used, a Condensation Particles Counter and a Differential Mobility Particle Sizer, which measured total aerosol number density above 0.02 μm as well as the aerosol size distribution between 0.02 μm and 0.621 μm in diameter. The results have been analyzed with help of 10

4s-4p transitions including intercombination lines in Zn-like Zr XI, Nb XII and Mo XIII

Energy levels of the configurations 4s4p and 4p2 in zink-like Zr, Nb and Mo have been derived through the identification of spectral lines emitted from laser-produced plasmas. Intercombination lines in the 4s4p-4p2 transition connect the singlet and triplet systems. Wavelengths for spinforbidden and magnetic quadrupole ground term combinations have been derived from the energy levels.

ELULC‐10, a 10 m European Land Use and Land Cover Map Using Sentinel and Landsat Data in Google Earth Engine

Land Use/Land Cover (LULC) maps can be effectively produced by cost‐effective and frequent satellite observations. Powerful cloud computing platforms are emerging as a growing trend in the high utilization of freely accessible remotely sensed data for LULC mapping over largescale regions using big geodata. This study proposes a workflow to generate a 10 m LULC map of Europe with nine classes, ELUL

Design and synthesis of novel 3-triazolyl-1-thiogalactosides as galectin-1, -3 and -8 inhibitors

Galectins are galactoside-binding proteins that play a role in various pathophysiological conditions, making them attractive targets in drug discovery. We have designed and synthesised a focused library of aromatic 3-triazolyl-1-thiogalactosides targeting their core site for binding of galactose and a subsite on its non-reducing side. Evaluation of their binding affinities for galectin-1, -3, and

The Hydration State of Bone Tissue Affects Contrast in Neutron Tomographic Images

Neutron tomography has emerged as a promising imaging technique for specific applications in bone research. Neutrons have a strong interaction with hydrogen, which is abundant in biological tissues, and they can penetrate through dense materials such as metallic implants. However, in addition to long imaging times, two factors have led to challenges in running in situ mechanical characterization e

Enhanced short-wavelength sensitivity in the blue-tongued skink Tiliqua rugosa

Despite lizards using a wide range of colour signals, the limited variation in photoreceptor spectral sensitivities across lizards suggests only weak selection for species-specific, spectral tuning of photoreceptors. Some species, however, have enhanced short-wavelength sensitivity, which probably helps with the detection of signals rich in ultraviolet and short wavelengths. In this study, we exam

Causality of anthropometric markers associated with polycystic ovarian syndrome : Findings of a Mendelian randomization study

Introduction Using body mass index (BMI) as a proxy, previous Mendelian randomization (MR) studies found total causal effects of general obesity on polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). Hitherto, total and direct causal effects of general- and central obesity on PCOS have not been comprehensively analyzed. Objectives To investigate the causality of central- and general obesity on PCOS using surrogat

How Can a Banking Union Make the EU More Resilient to Crises?

This chapter examines if and how the yet-incomplete European Banking Union can make the EU more resilient to crises. Key experiences from the financial and sovereign debt crises, and the EU’s new bank regulatory framework and the components of the Banking Union, are summarised. An overview of how European banking sectors have developed since the previous crises is also provided. The current regula
