Top quark pair production at complete NLO accuracy with NNLO+NNLL′ corrections in QCD

We describe predictions for top quark pair differential distributions at hadron colliders, by combining the next-to-next-to-leading order quantum chromodynamics calculations and next-to-leading order electroweak corrections with double resummation at the next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy of threshold logarithms and small-mass logarithms. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first s

Holding course : Civil society organizations’ value expressions in the Swedish legislative consultation system before and after 2015

Contrary to the general trend in European countries since the 2000s, Sweden has neither restricted its migration policy nor limited the rights of migrants. This changed with the ‘refugee crisis’ of 2015 when the government introduced policy changes to curb the number of arrivals and impede the granting of residence permits. Civil society organizations are significantly involved in the reception of

Effects of pheromone trap type, position and colour on the catch of the pine sawfly Neodiprion sertifer (Geoff.) (Hym., Diprionidae)

Two novel easy‐to‐make pheromone traps, a cross‐barrier sticky trap and an open horizontal sticky trap, are described. Both types caught about the same number of male pine sawflies, Neodiprion sertifer, when baited with the synthetic pheromone (2S, 3S, 7S)‐3,7‐dimethylpentadec‐2‐yl acetate. The catch on unbaited cross‐barrier traps was about 17% compared with baited traps, whereas unbaited horizon

Multi-disciplinary lidar applications

Lidar is a powerful technique normally associated with atmospheric monitoring. However, lidar techniques, also of the laser-induced fluorescence and laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy varieties, provide many new possibilities in unconventional fields including cultural heritage and ecological applications.

Identification of four components from the female sex pheromone of the lima‐bean pod borer, Etiella zinckenella

Four compounds, tetradecyl acetate, (Z)‐9‐tetradecenyl acetate, (E)‐11‐tetradecenyl acetate and (Z)‐11‐tetradecenyl acetate were identified from female sex pheromone extracts of Hungarian and Egyptian lima‐bean pod borers (Etiella zinckenella Tr., Lepidoptera: Phycitidae) by gas chromatography with flame ionization (FID) and electroantennographic (EAD) detection. In EAG studies these monounsaturat

Equality and the Taxable Unit in Income Tax

For a long time, married women were treated differently from married men in personal income tax acts (PITA’s) around the world. The Netherlands was no exception to this rule. The PITA reflected the political, religious and legal situation, but at the same time was often behind on developments in those areas. The current Dutch semi-individual tax system in which single earner families pay more tax

Complete Topological Mapping of a Cellular Protein Interactome Reveals Bow-Tie Motifs as Ubiquitous Connectors of Protein Complexes

The network topology of a protein interactome is shaped by the function of each protein, making it a resource of functional knowledge in tissues and in single cells. Today, this resource is underused, as complete network topology characterization has proved difficult for large protein interactomes. We apply a matrix visualization and decoding approach to a physical protein interactome of a dendrit

No more water, but fire next time : The conflict between environmental aims and social claims in Louisiana's post-Katrina coastal planning

There are two levels to this thesis, the examination of the particular case and the exposition of the general approach. The case the thesis deals with is Louisiana’s coastal land-loss crisis and what can and should be done about it. I examine the current approach to coastal protection and restoration in the state of Louisiana, drawing on different economic theories of sustainable development and c

Mixed airway and pulmonary parenchymal disease in patients with primary Sjögren's Syndrome - a six-year follow-up

OBJECTIVE: To assess pulmonary function and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) development over time in patients with primary Sjögren's Syndrome (pSS) and the association between pulmonary function, radiographic findings, respiratory symptoms and clinical features of pSS, taking cigarette consumption into account.METHODS: Forty patients with pSS (mean age 66 yrs, range 42-81 yrs, 39 wome

Formation and composition of the UTLS aerosol

Stratospheric aerosol has long been seen as a pure mixture of sulfuric acid and water. Recent measurements, however, found a considerable carbonaceous fraction extending at least 8 km into the stratosphere. This fraction affects the aerosol optical depth (AOD) and the radiative properties, and hence the radiative forcing and climate impact of the stratospheric aerosol. Here we present an investiga

Cities and Consumption - Urban Sustainability and the Sharing Economy : Course Guide

How can we govern consumption and the sharing economy in our cities? This course explores cities, consumption and the sharing economy in Europe and around the world. We connect together the key themes of the sharing economy, cities, governance, consumption and urban sustainability. We explore how the sharing economy can contribute to increasing social, environmental and economic sustainability. An

Liver blood flow studies during local hyperthermia. An experimental study in rats

Regional blood flow in rat liver and in inoculated liver tumors was studied before, during and after local hyperthermia treatment at 42.0°C for one hour. Hyperthermia was induced by microwave irradiation of the central liver lobe. The method used for blood flow studies was the clearance of Xenon-133 following portal and intraparenchymal injection. The wash-out curves were analyzed by using a bi-ex

The effect of total body microwave hyperthermia and hepatic artery ligation on liver tumors—an experimental study in rats

The effect of general microwave hyperthermia and hepatic artery ligation (HAL) was tested on Wistar rats with a transplanted N‐methyl‐N‐nitroso‐guanidine‐induced adenocarcinoma in the liver. Total body hyperthermia (41.5°C for 1 hour, three times during 24 hours) was given on the same day as HAL, and 1, 2, and 3 days after. HAL induced a slower tumor growth than untreated controls. The Reputation of the "World's Most Prestigious Award": The Nobel Prize

At its heart, this is a case about the reputation of an international symbol of achievement and about managing an iconic brand. The case provides insights into the nature of a prestigious “heritage brand” and its challenges and opportunities to remain relevant and differentiated in the 21st century. In “protecting and safeguarding the standing of the Nobel Prize” the executive board faced the para
