Missense mutations affecting a conserved cysteine pair in the TH domain of Btk

Tec family protein tyrosine kinases have in their N-terminus two domains, The PH domain is followed by Tec homology (TH) domain, which consists of two motifs, The first pattern, Btk motif, is also present in some Pas GAP molecules, C-terminal half of the TH domain, a proline-rich region, has been shown to bind to SH3 domains, Mutations in Bruton's tyrosine kinase (Btk) belonging to the Tec family

Does Ego meet Alter — in the Global Village? A View from Cultural Semiotics

Starting out from the rather different views on Ego and Alter formulated by Peirce and Bakhtin, and, more indirectly, by Foucault, the present contribution attempts to characterise the position of these familiar philosophical personages within the framework of cultural semiotics, as it has been adapted in Lund from the models of the Prague and Tartu schools. The resulting model is tried out in a c

In-Cylinder Fluid Flow, Fuel Preparation and Combustion in SI Engines - Application of Optical Diagnostics

In this thesis laser-based measurements of in-cylinder flow and fuel concentrations in two stroke and direct injected four-stroke engines are presented. The major problem with the carburetted two-stroke engine is the short-circuiting of fuel that occurs during the scavenging phase. This leads to large emissions of unburned hydrocarbons. The object of this thesis has been to map the flow behaviour

Pycnoconidial types in cetrarioid lichens.

The pycnoconidia in about 70 cetrarioid species have been investigated. Five main types are recognized: bacillariform, bifusiform, citriform, filiform and sublageniform pycnoconidia. The largest variation is found within the bifusiform and citriform types. The variation and presence of different types within cetrarioid lichens are described and discussed.

Hypertension and changes of cognitive function in 81-year-old men: a 13-year follow-up of the population study 'Men born in 1914', Sweden

Background The relationship between blood pressure levels and decline of cognition has been discussed previously, but little is known about the confounding effect of lifestyle factors, anti hypertensive treatment and disease in the elderly. Objective To examine the association between systolic (SBP) and diastolic (DBP) blood pressure, changes of DBP and SBP and hypertension (HT) on cognitive funct

Restrained cerebral hyperperfusion in response to superimposed acute hypoxemia in growth-restricted human fetuses with established brain-sparing blood flow.

Objective: To investigate the cerebral circulatory response to superimposed acute hypoxemia in growth-restricted fetuses with established brain-sparing flow (BSF) during basal conditions. Material and methods: 76 term fetuses suspected of growth restriction were exposed to Doppler velocimetry in the umbitical artery (UA) and middle cerebral artery (MCA), and in 38-39 cases also in Galen's vein (GV

Randomized clinical trial of laparoscopic versus open fundoplication: evaluation of psychological well-being and changes in everyday life from a patient perspective.

BACKGROUND: The laparoscopic approach in antireflux surgery might have an impact on the patient's daily activities and well-being. METHODS: Sixty patients were randomized to laparoscopic or open 360 degrees fundoplication. Data were collected by questionnaires and interviews preoperatively, 1 month and 6 months after operation. RESULTS: Five patients in the laparoscopic group were converted to ope

Blue Chitin columns for the extraction of heterocyclic amines from cooked meat

Mutagenic/carcinogenic heterocyclic amines (HAs) are formed at low levels (ng/g) during heat processing of protein-rich food such as meat and fish. The complex matrix requires effective extraction and purification methods. Blue Chitin columns were used for the extraction of HAs from fried chicken fillets and the samples were analysed with LC-MS. Several HAs were identified at levels ranging from 0

Travel patterns and environmental effects now and in the future: implications of differences in energy consumption among socio-economic groups.

Travel patterns among different socio-economic groups in Sweden are investigated. It is shown that elderly persons, persons with low incomes and women in general do not travel extensively. Middle-aged persons, persons with high incomes and men travel much farther. Cars are the dominant transportation mode for all population groups. Aeroplanes are used mostly by high-income earners and men, while p

A novel frequency-multiplication device based on three-terminal ballistic junction

In this letter, a novel frequency-multiplication device based on a three-terminal ballistic junction is proposed and demonstrated. A 100 nm-size, three-terminal ballistic junction and a one-dimensional (1-D), lateral-field-effect transistor with trench gate-channel insulation are fabricated from high-electron-mobility GaInAs/InP quantum-well material as a single device. The devices show frequency

Intuitive judgement in the context of constructivism

This report presents the fifth and last experiment in a longitudinal study of text building behaviour at the Gymnasium level of a Swedish School. The series of experiments concerns natural language production as a means for the establishment of state attractors as well as their geometric space descriptions. The hypothesis tested during three years of instruction and learning is whether the evolvin
