Interactive Network Visualization of Insurance Portfolios

Companies are seeking new ways to analyse data, and network visualizations are a great tool to enhance the ability to understand relational data. The objective of this thesis project was to build an interactive network visualization of an insurance company’s portfolio. The resulting visualization helps users catch sight of patterns and outliers that might, otherwise, be overlooked. The results wer

Konferens: Measuring Affective Polarization (MAP)

By Nordic MAP Network The term affective polarization refers to the extent to which citizens feel more negatively toward other political parties than toward their own. Researchers do not know much about the link between news media coverage and affective polarization. One way to better understand affective polarization is to measure the effects of it, for example by setting up scientific experiment

Cabbage Dressing in Corona Times

Cabbage Dressing in Corona Times is a research project conducted by Charlotte and Sally that explores collaborative making, wearing, and undressing within the limitations of the global COVID-19 pandemic. The material of cabbage is chosen because of its impermanence — it easily decomposes, becoming symbolic of the fragility of our current context. The costumes have been created together but also se

Tracking visual segmentation : connecting semiotic and cognitive perspectives

This article introduces a new methodology for deriving the dynamics of visual segmentation in relation to the underlying cognitive processes involved. The method combines social semiotics approaches to visual segmentation with eye-tracking studies on authentic image viewing and simultaneous image description. The authors' thesis is that visual segmentation suggested by the social semiotic approach

Case history discourse. A rhetoric of troublesome youngsters and faceless treatment

In numerous social control settings, staff routinely write case histories on clients to assist colleagues and authorities in treatment decisions. In this article, we examine how such institutional writing constructs ‘working versions’ of youngsters, portraying their objects of care as personally troublesome.
